| Inaugural Deck Dinner | |
The plan all along was to christen our newly finished deck with a quiet evening of good food and special beer. It took a lot longer than we thought to get there but what home improvement project doesn't. I have to admit there are still some finishing touches but it's close enough to enjoy! The meal started with some comfort food, Mike's favorite taco dip with some healthy additions of avocado and lots of veggies. Cold dip on a humid summer evening...perfect!We also shared a Founders KBS and savored every sip. This special beer has been waiting for this special occasion for months. Great aroma and flavor of chocolate and bourbon was definitely worth the wait. Three more left to enjoy; just have to figure out when! Our main meal was simple but unconventional. We had to break in our new Weber grill and on our quest to make the perfect chicken wing; we had to experiment right off the bat. Wings were first marinated overnight in EVOO, balsamic vinegar, chili powder, and crushed red pepper. When thrown on the hot grill, they got crisp and charred in a very good way. Actually, part of the mission was always to take an unhealthy greasy wing and make it a little bit better for you and I think this method might be the best. The excess grease just melts off while still leaving it juicy. They were tossed in a homemade Oscar Blues Old Chub and rhubarb BBQ sauce that I lovingly made the day before. Recipe is a concoction of rhubarb from my garden, a whole can of Old Chub beer, garlic, onions, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, and ketchup. What I usually do is find a recipe online but then tweak it to fit ingredients I want to include. Can't help it, I've always been a concocter. The wings were awesome. Somewhat like our favorite La Nova wings from Buffalo. We will definitely be doing wings on the grill again! The new deck is wonderful! We will definitely be making lots of great memories out there!
