| Animal Crossing: City Folk - Play It? | |
This will be another abbreviated Play It? as my full review is already up over at NWR. Animal Crossing is definitely a love it or hate it type of game. First and foremost you have to be the kind of game player that likes a laid back simulation game where the only goal is to collect stuff and earn money.Gogh and I got seriously into the first incarnation on the GameCube. I bought the DS sequel but it never really hooked me as much. I think this is mostly due to the fact that I no longer felt connected to other people, as few were playing it online and I couldn't coax Gogh into picking up the DS and playing. The Wii version is little more than a glorified port of the DS game, as most of the features are nearly identical. After the first three or four days of playing the review copy, I was angry and ready to give the game a straight five for having no real improvements over the previous title. After a few more days though, the silly animal town grabbed me and hooked me again. I still make it a point to log on every day, and I was even sure to get as many of the special Harvest/Thanksgiving items as physically possible. Overall, if you are still playing Wild World (the DS game) every day, about the only reason to move to City Folk is if you have friends or family with the game and want to be able to visit them. If you've never played an Animal Crossing before, it's hard for me not to suggest picking City Folk up. Give it a play! The shots included in this post were taken by me using the in-game tool. There'd be more of them, but the game enjoys erasing them on a whim.
